Penn Medicine neurosurgeon Donald O'Rourke, MD, was interviewed by Comcast SportsNet and 6ABC discussing the outlook for former Phillies player Darren Daulton, who was diagnosed with the brain cancer glioblastoma following surgery to remove two tumors early this month.
“Glioblastoma is a very difficult, challenging cancer,” he said. “One of the challenges as a surgeon is to be able to remove the tumor while respecting the normal tissue … there always is a microscopic number of tumor cells that is around the original tumor cells that has to be treated.”
Still, he told 6ABC, there’s reason to be hopeful to due recent advances both the understanding of the disease’s biology and experimental treatments
