Description:
The Brain Assessment Research Laboratory in the Department of Psychiatry at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland, has openings for Research Assistants to begin in the spring of 2014.
We seek energetic, well-organized, detail-oriented, responsible, and dedicated individuals with excellent interpersonal skills to work full-time as Research Assistants on a longitudinal clinical research project. This work is conducted at two locations in suburban Washington, DC, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The research project, directed by Dr. Connie Duncan, involves assessment of brain structure and function in injured service members with mild traumatic brain injury. Patients are followed over time to evaluate clinical outcome, with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Brain indices include event-related brain potentials, MRI/DTI/SWI, and neurocognitive performance.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, patient recruitment, scheduling, and interviewing; electrophysiological and neurocognitive testing; data processing, entry, and analysis; maintaining databases and files; word processing and preparation of figures and slides; purchasing; and other duties in support of research projects.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Requirements include an excellent academic record and research experience, English fluency, a bachelor's degree, a car and valid driver’s license. Previous experience with EEG/ERP recording, Excel, MATLAB, E-Prime, PowerPoint, and statistical packages (e.g., SPSS) is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment is essential. Some weekend work may be required, and flexible scheduling will be needed.
This position is ideal for someone who seeks experience in clinical research before going on to graduate school in psychology or medical school. The start date is the spring of 2014. A competitive salary and benefits package is offered and will be commensurate with qualifications.
