Part-Time Position for Post-Bach PSYC Terp
UPDATED 5/21/13The Department of Psychology and the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences are thrilled to announce that they have been awarded a 2013 Moving Maryland Forward Grant. The goal is to produce a series of online video modules that provide current and prospective minority students with virtual mentoring on success at the undergraduate level. Some modules will focus specifically on psychology while others on more general aspects of academics, professional development and preparation for graduate study.
The grant creates a part-time Project Manager position ("Academic Program Specialist, Contingent I, 20 hours per week) to start mid- to late-June of 2013
with the possibility of continuing through May of 2014. The Project Manager will be responsible for:
- Conducting literature reviews and summaries of research related to academic achievement disparities and interventions
- Conducting focus group sessions with current and prospective students on this and other campuses
- Developing and producing short video modules that address specific aspects of academic success at the undergraduate level. These would include interviews with a diverse range of students, faculty, staff and alumni.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:- A bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland (the work requires an intimate knowledge of this particular University)
- A record of significant academic achievement in psychology
- A record of involvement in independent study (e.g., internships, research assistantships, teaching assistantships)
- Experience conducting literature reviews
- Experience producing multimedia content (e.g., videos, online presentations, course content)
- Experience designing and conducting survey and experimental research
- A demonstrated interest in supporting student learning and success (e.g., peer mentor, teaching assistant, student affairs).
- The ability to travel offsite to other schools in Maryland
- A demonstrated ability to work independently and manage long-term projects within deadlines and budgets
- Excellent communication skills
Special Consideration will be given to those who have:
- Experience conducting focus group sessions or leading organizational meetings
- Experience developing and evaluating persuasive campaigns
- Advanced experience with interviewing a wide range of individuals
- Advanced experience with video production (high-quality audio, filming, editing)
- A demonstrated record of commitment to issues of diversity on and off campus
- Experience with qualitative research
- Experience with between-groups data analysis
