Position: PREP Peer MentorWhat is the PREP program? The Psychology Research Empowerment Program (PREP) is a new program set to launch in Fall
2016. The overarching purpose of the PREP program is to better prepare underrepresented minority undergraduate students for graduate education in psychology. PREP will engage students in research in their first year in college, facilitate positive relationships between minority students, faculty, advisors, and peers, and to prepare minority students to pursue doctoral level education.
PREP Peer Mentor Job Description: The Department of Psychology is seeking two undergraduate psychology students to work with the Office of Undergraduate Studies staff this summer and for the 2016-2017 academic school year to help create and launch the PREP Program. Peer Mentors will gain experience and skills in program development, course development, teaching, mentoring, and research. Specifically, PREP Peer Mentors will work approximately 5 hours per week beginning in July and ending May 20, 2017:
-Develop recruitment materials for the PREP program
-Help recruit students for the PREP program
-Serve as a Peer Mentor for PREP students
-Work closely with PSYC advisors to create advising tools for the PREP program
-Lead orientation sessions for new Psychology students enrolled in the PREP program
-Assist with research assessing the benefits of the PREP program
-Work as an undergraduate teaching assistant for a one-credit PREP course in the Spring semester
-Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements: - Psychology major
- Will be a sophomore or junior in Fall 2016
- Record of strong academic performance (cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.0)
- Must be available to begin in Summer 2016 and work approximately 5 hours per week.
