Operations Intern position with The Society for Personality and Social Psychology!


The Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) is a professional membership association with a US and international membership of approximately 6,000 psychologists, students, and others who share a common interest in social and personality psychology. SPSP
was established in the 1970s and run virtually mostly by volunteers. In 2013, SPSP hired its first Executive Director and is setting up its first central office in Washington, DC, in 2014.

SPSP seeks an energetic intern for Fall 2014 to assist in the operation of the SPSP Central Office. Interns receive exposure to many social and personality psychologists and will participate in a variety of tasks geared toward supporting the science of social and personality psychology. Successful applicants must be able to work independently and must have excellent communication skills. The Operations Intern works on projects organized by various members of the SPSP staff, as well as projects of his/her own, and reports to the Operations Manager.

Specific activities may include:
• Communicating with members
• Communicating with the general public interested in the field
Maintaining membership database and ensuring appropriate updates are correctly entered, including
membership payments and other recordsAssist with web updates and content editing
• Assist in promoting social and personality psychology on SPSP social media
• Helping plan various elements of the 2015 SPSP Convention
• Performing other activities as assigned

Special opportunity
SPSP is undergoing a very large web development project that will include creating a new website and developing an online community for SPSP members. Those with knowledge of social and personality psychology can play a pivotal role in this exciting project, scheduled to launch in March 2015. Those with above‐average technology skills
are particularly encouraged to apply.

Position Requirements:
• Graduate psychology students, as well as junior‐ or senior‐level undergraduate psychology students, may apply
• Maturity, good judgment, sense of humor, analytic and problem‐solving skills, and customer‐service
orientation.
• Able to interact positively with member/volunteer officers
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to work on multiple projects and issues simultaneously and meet frequent deadlines
• Proficient user of Microsoft Office

SPSP, located in downtown Washington DC, is a small and very staff‐friendly professional membership association. SPSP leadership and staff are committed to a diverse workforce.

Start date: September 1
End Date: End of Fall 2014 Semester, with possibility of extension
Hours: 12‐15 hours/week, $12/hour
