Italy Study Abroad Opportunity: Domestic and Sexual Violence
CARE to Stop ViolenceSpring BreakStudy Abroad Opportunity- ItalyDescription:Want to Study Abroad to Italy to learn more about Domestic and Sexual Violence? HLTH 389V is a three credit, interdisciplinary 10-day study abroad course where students will travel to Rome and Sicily from March 15, 2014 to March 23, 2014 to learn about the issues surrounding domestic and sexual violence. Students will visit women’s organizations, speak with local police and legal professionals in addition to talking with high school and college students about these issues. The program also includes visits to the Vatican, a day excursion to Mt. Etna Volcano and a day excursion to Florence.
Trip Itinerary: Proposed Itinerary: Day 1: City sightseeing of Rome Welcome Dinner Day 2: Visit the Vatican Colosseum Festival Day 3: Fly to Catania Orientation and introduction to Sicily and Sicilian culture and guided tour of Catania Day 4: Morning: Travel to Acireale, a small town next to Catania to visit the Foreigner Language High School, Visit the largest Women’s Organization in Sicily, The Thamaia Center for Anti Violence.
Day 5: Day visit to Taormina and Etna Volcano Depart back for Rome Day 6: Visit the International House of Women. Meet and discuss with president of the IHW and have a meeting with women’s legal rights professionals. Visit American University of Rome and meet with a professor to discuss sexual violence towards women in Italy Day 7: Travel to Florence. Arrive Florence and have city tour Group will meet for dinner and return to Rome in the evening. Day 8: Free Day Farewell Dinner Day 9: Depart for home
