UCLA Neurosurgery Chairman Visits Pennsylvania Hospital

This past Friday, Neil Martin, MD, UCLA Neurosurgery chairman visited Pennsylvania Hospital - the Nation's first hospital.

During his visit, Dr. Martin gained a deeper appreciation for the history of medicine while getting a glimpse of the future of neurosurgery by observing a procedure called fully endoscopic microvascular decompression performed by John Y.K. Lee, MD.

Fully endoscopic microvascular decompression is an innovative surgical technique used to treat trigeminal neuralgia, a rare cranial nerve condition that causes intense facial pain.

Dr. Martin and Dr. Lee are pictured in front of the famous painting "Christ Healing the Sick in the Temple" located in Pennsylvania Hospital.
