PAL Program
Looking for experience working with students? Want to develop your helping skills in preparation for graduate school in counseling or clinical psychology? If so, consider applying to be a PAL (Peer Assisted Learning) educator with the Learning Assistance Service this year.
The Learning Assistance Service (LAS) in the Counseling Center has developed a peer educator program called the PAL (Peer Assisted Learning) program designed around the concept of peers assisting their peers in reaching their short and long-term academic goals. The PAL program is designed for students who want to meet with a PAL educator to receive support and assistance for one (or more) of their classes. PAL educators will help students improve their study skills, gain confidence in their scholastic abilities, and provide tips and techniques for continuing academic success.In order to be a PAL, you must meet the following qualifications:
· Must have a strong academic and major GPA
· Must have completed at least 2 academic semesters
· Must be able to provide a current academic transcript
· Must be able to provide a current semester class schedule· Must have a strong desire to support and assist fellow studentsTo Apply: Please complete and submit an application located online: http://www.counseling.umd.edu/LAS/html/palapp.pdf- Please provide a copy of your current transcript (unofficial copy is acceptable)
- Please provide a copy of your class schedule for the semester you plan to join the PAL program
Completed applications may be submitted to Learning Assistance Service in the Shoemaker Building, Room 2202 M-F 8am-4:30pm or emailed to Paula Hentz: [email protected] (please attach the completed application, transcript, and class schedule to the email)
