Delaware Walk Generates Funds for Brain Tumor Research
According to the National Brain Tumor Society, nearly 70,000 new, primary brain tumors will be diagnosed in the U.S. this year alone. Brain tumors can occur in anyone—adults as well as children and almost 700,000 people are living with tumors of the brain and central nervous system today.
On April 27th, Penn Medicine partnered with the National Brain Tumor Society in Dover, Delaware to raise funds in support of the many needs of the brain tumor community. The support was overwhelming as more than 1,400 people participated in the race and countless more donated. Through the hard work from the walkers, volunteers and donors, nearly $200,000 was raised. All funds raised through this event go to help the efforts of the National Brain Tumor Society to drive strategic research initiatives aimed at finding new therapies.
“It was great to see so many patients doing well and able to participate in the festivities”, said Nurse Practitioner Laura M. Lesovitz. “Seeing the survivors was a true inspiration and reminds me of why I love being a nurse.”
Special thanks to all those who participated and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
