Description:Qualitative research methods are particularly valuable for studying the in-depth inner experiences of people and it is important to have the knowledge and skills for conducting qualitative research. This course explores the philosophy of science and methods involved in qualitative research methods in counseling psychology along with a comparison to quantitative research methods. This is a one-sectioned, 4-credit lab course with only 10 seats available. Offered MW from 10:00am -12:00pm in MTH 2300.
Responsibilities:- Learn about the assumptions underlying different research methods
- Discuss the rationale for when to use qualitative approaches as compared with quantitative approaches
- Understand the steps of conducting research using consensual qualitative research (CQR) along with reading and critiquing published CQR studies
- Conduct a qualitative study and work collaboratively as a part of the class
- Review literature, develop an interview protocol, interview participants, analyze data, and write a manuscript
Qualifications/Requirements:- Prerequisite: PSYC200 and PSYC300
- Permission of BSOS-Psychology department
- Must be in Psychology program
- Must have earned a minimum of 85 credits
