Volunteer Assistants needed for Mental Health Quality Improvement Project!
The Divisions of Hematology and Oncology and The Divisions of Allergy and Immunology at Children’s National Health System are looking for volunteers to assist with a mental health quality improvement project in our outpatient medical clinics. The purpose of the project is to identify mental health concerns among our patients via validated mental health screeners completed on iPads in clinic waiting rooms in order to guide doctors’ recommendations for mental health services.
Volunteers report directly to Steven Hardy, PhD, and Linda Herbert, PhD, the psychologists who work in these clinics. Typical volunteer responsibilities include reviewing provider schedules, identifying patients to be screened, meeting with families to explain the mental health screener, administering screeners via iPad, calculating scores, collecting process data, and interacting with a multidisciplinary team of physicians and other health professionals. Opportunities for research are also available.
Both psychology students and medical students are eligible for this position. Volunteers must be able to dedicate at least 1-2 days/week to the project for 4-6 months.
Interested applicants should send a resume to either Dr. Hardy (
[email protected]) or Dr. Herbert (
[email protected]).
