Practice Makes Perfect: How to Sell Yourself in Interviews for Internships

When searching for internships, it is important to effectively articulate your experiences in an interview setting. This interactive session will help students learn about different types of interviews (in-person, phone, Skype, group, etc.) and how to effectively handle each one. We will also discuss the power in storytelling and provide an effective formula to help your story stay on track. Find a Job: Employer Targeted Search Tips

Are you having a difficult time finding your ideal position? Attend this workshop to learn tips for identifying organizations of interest as well as how to connect with employers and develop a relationship prior to a position being advertised (potentially giving you the inside scoop). Know your Rights as an Employee - A workshop presented by The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR)
Thursday, October 10, 2013 • 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m.
Location: University Career Center & The President’s Promise (3rd Floor Hornbake Library, South Wing)


With the goal of educating the community about their rights and responsibilities from a legal perspective, CAIR civil rights attorneys present information about the rights of individuals as employees in this interactive workshop. The workshop will cover the specific laws that protect individual’s employment rights, outline religious accommodations in the workplace, discuss fairness in hiring/firing/promotions, and provide concrete steps and resources on how to deal with workplace discrimination. This presentation includes an interactive PowerPoint presentation followed by a Q&A session. After the workshop, participants will know basic civil rights laws and their application and be empowered to contact CAIR to report a complaint should they ever be faced with a challenge. Be Employable: Ask a BSOS Intern

BSOS students who have interned in Maryland, Washington, D.C., New York City and Connecticut will be available to chat with their fellow students one-on-one in an informal setting. Two program directors will be available to help you navigate the University Career Center & The President’s Promise website and introduce you to the many resources available to you as a Maryland student. The BSOS internship coordinator will answer your questions about where other BSOS students have interned in the past and are interning currently.

Student Presenters have had successful internships in a broad array of organizations including:

• Becky’s Fund
• Maryland General Assembly
• Clifford Beers Guidance Clinic
