Paid Summer Internship as a Toy Safety Researcher!

Our ideal student is a graduate student or junior or senior undergraduate student, who is self-motivated and eager to gain hands-on experience applying psychology and human factors concepts to protecting consumers, and who is available part-time, 2-3 days per week.

Responsibilities: 
This student would assist Division staff with product age determinations, which involves evaluating toys and children’s products to determine the most appropriate age range. Age determinations are used by other CPSC technical groups to identify the type (mechanical or chemical) and severity of testing needed to evaluate product safety concerns. The student would work with our databases, prioritize products for analysis, and conduct preliminary evaluations using standardized guidance in CPSC’s Age Determination Guidelines. The student also may have the opportunity to contribute to a research project related to child development or human factors. This is a full-time paid opportunity, and we are willing to work with the student and school to help him/her earn internship or research credit. Interns are paid a salary based on the GS pay scale, and there may be opportunities to continue your internship during school breaks throughout the following school year. Additionally, your time in your internship counts as federal service should you later come to work for the federal government.
